Elgin Street was closed off by the time I got back outside, at Confederation Square. I don't envy those cops today.

Thankfully, so was the War Memorial. It'd make me sick to see hippies defiling that with their near-fictional accusations.

Such charming people, no?

Parliament Hill was sparsely attended, likely because it was so hard to get to. Wellington was blocked off even for pedestrians from O'Connor all the way to in front of the Rideau Centre. Still, some die-hard moonbats made the trip. Don't underestimate the importance of that last shot to these jackasses, either; there was so much pot smoke in the air I was starting to get a headache after three pictures.

Sussex Drive and Rideau Street, shot from the Mackenzie King Bridge. The US Embassy is roughly across the street from the cathedral in the distance.

More from atop the bridge, looking down at the Canal.

McDonald's on Rideau was also sensibly boarded up; they went farther than their counterparts on Bank, however, in hiding every sign with orange tarps. You can't be too careful with an angry mob.

Rideau on the other side of the barriers, as well as the entire By Ward Market and Major's Hill Park, were almost entirely deserted - even in front of the embassy, a shot I appear to have somehow lost. These two lonely sign-wielders were fleeing towards the Rideau Centre when I took their picture.

For some reason, a number of protestors tried to gather at the west side of the barricade at Rideau and Wellington, apparently unaware that access to parts beyond could be easily had through the mall.

Back on Parliament Hill, the crowd started to look less pathetically tiny around elevenish.

Ottawa police videotape a speaker at the open mike obsessed with the notion of world peace achieved through massive orgies.

Wankers.

Gimme that old-time vilification, gimme that old-time vilification...

A few lonely Yushchenko supporters huddled around the Eternal Flame despite the inanity fifty feet away.

Still not too impressive, guys. Aren't you supposed to be a mass movement, or something?

Emergency response teams were on hand.

Now there's a mixed metaphor if ever I saw one. It's like an alien unfamiliar with the political dynamic tried to assemble a replica sign out of component parts, getting it just a bit off.
